Alyson Pugh
I spent my first placement working within the Customer Services Team followed by 6 months working within the Finance department. After completing these two placements, I then moved to Riverfen Farms where I have continued my employment.
I really enjoyed being able to get the chance to spend time within different areas of the business, which gave me a better understanding of the company and made me appreciate how employees at G's work as a team.
The most important thing I learned from being on the scheme is how to communicate efficiently and effectively both within the company and externally with other businesses. I am currently working for Riverfen Farms. I started at Second Willow Nursery and then moved to Engine Farm where I am currently involved in the greenhouse and the growing of iceberg. The skills I learnt on the MTS scheme have helped me in my current role because I have learnt to manage my time, be able to communicate more efficiently and effectively, prioritise my work load and make better use of computer programmes.

I joined the G’s Management Training Programme in 2007. My first placement was as a Harvest Supervisor. This gave me the opportunity to learn about the company from a supervisory point of view and by doing this, I was able to learn about the company’s policies and procedures. I supervised a rig of 14 people and I found this really rewarding. I really enjoyed motivating the team even when it got tough.
My next placement was in the customer service and transport department. Here I learnt about the process from when our products are harvested to when they arrive in the depot. This was also my first opportunity to liaise with our customers.
After this I spent time at our onion site in the commercial department, which gave me a great insight into one of our customer accounts. As well as continuing to develop my relationship with customers I also learnt how to negotiate prices with them. I am now in my final placement heading up sales to the wholesale markets, which means that I liaise with our market customers on a day to day basis. This has been such a great placement as I have met a variety of people.
