“I started at G's in March 2000. I joined through the graduate training scheme and started working in the packhouse before going to the field to work on Little Gem harvesting rigs. When I joined I did not have a clue what a 'Gem' lettuce was, coming from a beef, sheep and cereals farming background.
During my first year I also worked on the Speciality Lettuce harvest before going to Spain for the winter to work on Gem lettuce again. I then moved onto celery, where I have remained ever since. Over the last 9 seasons on celery I have been able to develop and progress myself and have seen farming operations all over the world. I have also had fun and made some great friends.
My job now is Celery and Radish Product Manager, and managing the UK Celery harvest. One of the best parts about this is being able to help individuals develop from being students to having a great career, and this gives me great satisfaction.
I find it very interesting to see farming in other parts of the world and to liaise with other farmers, learning from what they do and being better at my job as a result. At G's I have been given that opportunity to see and then implement new ideas and techniques.
I have been part of a team that has made our celery harvest operation one of the best in the world, helped move the celery operation from a packhouse-based operation to the flexible rig (packing in the field) system, and added new technology to the operation.
Over the last few years I have also been involved with our radish crop. We have successfully grown our radish business and improved our growing, harvesting, washing, packing and procurement processes. It is great to know that I am part of a team of people that is making sure we are building a business that is one of the best in the world.
But the really exciting bit of working both in celery and radish for me is that I can see the potential of what we can do in the future .... just wait and see!”

I have worked with G’s for the past 11 years. Before this I qualified as a chef. I also had knowledge of the fresh produce industry as my Dad is a farmer.
I joined the company as a QA assistant. Whilst performing this role I took on projects including trialling new products and developing packaging for our salad products. I was given the opportunity to take on more projects from the marketing team, such as looking at product in store and comparing it with other products on the market. I really enjoyed this and my working relationship with the marketing team was great.
I then move permanently from a technical role to the commercial department by taking on the role of Development Technologist. I have continued to progress through the business, and have taken on a team who are progressing through the business too.
I am now the Group’s New Product Development (NPD) Manager. The best part of my role so far has been developing flavour recipes for our prepared beetroot range, working with our seed partners to deliver new and exclusive varieties and launching these with our customers.
